PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
It is very hard to believe that we are almost at the end of the 2009/2010 school year. It has been an incredible year of teaching and learning for all of us! It will be a busy month as teachers complete units of study and create dynamic ways for students to finish their learning for the year.
We are excited about the activities and events coming up in June. Our annual Volunteer Tea will take place on Thursday, June 3rd from 7:30 am to 9:00 AM. The Laurier Heights annual family BBQ will take place on Friday, June 4th. Our grade 9 graduation ceremonies will take place the following week on Friday, June 11th with individual pictures from 4:30-5:30 pm, a group picture at 6:00 pm and the formal
portion of the evening (dinner and speeches) at 6:30 pm. Our junior high awards ceremony will take place on Monday, June 28th at 4:00 PM. As well, all of our students will be involved in some kind of year end activity on Monday, June 28th or Tuesday, June 29th. Information will come home shortly about these activities.
Laurier will undergo some staffing changes for the 2010/2011 school year. We would like to congratulate Mrs. Lia Homer on her retirement from Edmonton Public
Schools. Mrs. Homer has had an outstanding career and we’re proud to say she called Laurier her home for many years! We also say a sad goodbye to a few other staff members; M. Patrick Roux-Buhl who will be moving into a high school position; Ms. Christina Erbes, our librarian, who will be moving to a new school in the fall; Ms. Malina Bird, who has completed her temporary contract with us; Mr. Abdillahi Darod & Mrs. Jacqueline Richmond, who will both be moving to new schools in the fall; Mme Jenniene Dupont and Mlle Meryl Rowbotham who have both been recommended for continuous contracts with our district and will be
placed in positions for the fall. All of these staff members have become an integral part of what makes Laurier Heights such an amazing place to learn and play! Their dedication and service to students will be missed.
The first day of classes for the 2010/2011 school year will be on Wednesday, September 1st, just prior to the September long weekend. Please plan your vacations accordingly as the first three days of classes (prior to the long weekend) will set the tone for the year and we would like all of out students in attendance.
The staff at Laurier Heights would like to wish all of our students and their families a very safe, healthy and fun filled summer vacation!
